Information for new students and UCAS applicants

New students students in the west end

You are expected to be available from the week beginning Monday, 15 September 2008 to participate in registration, induction and class enrolment. If you anticipate a problem with this please discuss with a member of staff when booking your adviser appointment (details below).

Registration

Science students entering Session 2008 - 09 will register on Monday, 15 September 2008.  Please note that you must have met an adviser to discuss course choices and have them approved before you register.  Adviser appointments are available from mid-July.  You will receive a written invitation asking you to contact this office to arrange your appointment.

If you have questions or concerns about your transition to University life or the registration, advising process please feel free to contact this office at any stage (details below).

Registration is the process of becoming a recognised student of the University.  You will receive your University of Glasgow student card at registration.

Faculty inductions

The above meetings will take place on Tuesday, 16 September 2008.  Inductions offer an opportunity to find out more about the Faculty you will be joining, to meet some of the staff, including the Principal Adviser for Science and to learn something of the support services which are available for you.

Class enrolment

You must enrol for each of your classes (a different process to Registration).  Most enrolments will take place on Thursday, 18 September 2008.  Further, detailed information, will be available for you when you meet your adviser.

Accommodation: halls of residence

Access is available to the halls of residence from 12 September 2008.  International students are welcome to discuss arrangements direct with residential services if they wish to arrive earlier than this date.

All enquiries should be directed without delay to Residential Services.

If you are travelling from some distance to join us at the Unviersity of Glasgow, it is possible to arrange your advising appointment to coincide with your entry to the halls of residence, however these places can be booked at the start of summer - do not delay when contacting us to arrange your appointment.

Tuition Fees

Before you can register as a student at the University you need to provide information on how your tuition fees will be paid.

UCAS applicants

An application for any Science degree at the University of Glasgow is made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).  It is no longer possible to make your UCAS application on a paper form.  You apply online through the UCAS website at www.ucas.com.  On first entering the UCAS application system (UCAS apply) you are required to register and will be given a password which allows access to your application at any later date.

Applications are made for specific degrees but you are admitted to the Faculties of Science as a whole.
