Library Lending

Borrowing

Most material may be borrowed for one week and may be renewed for a maximum of three times.
Material which is in heavy demand is put into the Short Loan Collection. Short Loan items are due for return the following working day before noon and may not be renewed.
Some material eg dictionaries and grammar books are available only for use in the library.
Items are lent on the understanding that the borrower accepts responsibility for their prompt return in good condition. The cost of replacing damaged or lost items will be charged to the borrower.

Renewing

Items may be renewed for a maximum of three times in the following ways:

  • In person, at the Language Centre Library or the main University Library
  • On the internet by accessing your University Library Account
  • By email to lc-librarian@arts.gla.ac.uk giving your full name, matriculation number or barcode number of library card and the title of each item you wish to renew.  You will receive confirmation of renewal along with the new due date
  • By phoning 0141 330 4117 giving your full name, barcode number of library card and title of each item you wish to renew.  Requests left no the answering machine will be dealt with as quickly as possible and will be backdated when appropriate.  Please speak clearly and leave a contact number

Returning

Items should be returned to the library counter or to the return bin at the bottom of the stairs. When the Hetherington Building is closed, items may be returned to Lending Services, Glasgow University Library, Hillhead Street.

Fines

Library users are encouraged to return all items on time as fines are charged for the late return of material. The schedule of fines applied by the main University Library also applies in the Langauage Centre Library.
