International Pre-Masters/Pre-Doctorate in Medical Science
You are welcome and encouraged to attend this 5-week course designed for overseas students. It will prepare you for study within the Faculty of Medicine Graduate School in clinical, social or laboratory aspects of medical science. The combination of subject input and langauge practice will help you adapt to the style of learning and teaching expected of postgraduate students at the University of Glasgow. This course will give you a distinct advantage for your successful postgraduate study and improve your chances of success.
You will cover:
• Subject relevant vocabulary, jargon, concepts and expectations using examples
from papers relevant to your area of study
• Learning skills, teaching formats and critical thinking
• Extensive language practice within tutorials and small group settings
• Seminar and presentation skills
• Note-taking in live lectures
• Writing an extended report on an aspect relevant to your proposed study
• Library research
• Appropriate referencing of scientific papers
• Cultural and academic expectations within the University of Glasgow
You will be assessed throughout the course and will sit an exit test. your final report will certify your level of English language proficiency.
The course is suitable for students with IELTS 6.5 or IELTS 6.0 or equivalent with not less than 6.0 in any skill.
It is expected that students will achieve a level equivalent to IELTS 6.5, or higher, by the end of the course and will be better equipped to commentce their formal programme of study within the Faculty of Medicine Graduate School.
Attendance may be a conidtion of offer, or you may be recommended to attend.
Course dates: 11 August to 12 September 2008
Course fee: £1230 (a deposit of £600 is payable to ensure a place on the course)

If flights are delayed, latecomers will be accepted until Wednesday 13th August however there is no reduction in course fees.
