Pre-Sessional Courses

This full-time programme of courses aims to bring your English up to entry level for a course in the University of Glasgow (or other tertiary institution), equivalent to the required IELTS score.  Courses can last from 10 to 40 weeks depending on your entry level of English.  Click here for more information on Course dates and feesand for an application form.

The Year-Round Pre-sessional Course has two parts.
1) PRE-SESSIONAL AUTUMN TO SPRING
This course runs in 3 stages over 30 weeks and leads into the Pre-sessional Summer - the final stage of preparation. You should join at the stage that fits your starting level. The principal focus is on grammar and vocabulary development. In addition to English for everyday life, there is a step-by-step programme to gradually build up your language, together with your study skills and subject vocabulary in English.

2) PRE-SESSIONAL SUMMER
This course is the final stage of preparation for study. Choose A or B.
Course Content (Summer A)
An intensive 10 week course providing a firm foundation in language and study skills to prepare you for academic study.  Apart from language, you will cover presentation skills, listening to live lectures, and how to use sources in your text to avoid plagiarism. To put these skills into practice, students write, research, and present a group project, plus an extended essay in the first 5 weeks.  In the second 5 weeks students join Pre-sessional Summer B.

Course Content (Summer B)
An express course of 5 weeks for those whose language skills are ready for University entry. Students practise the above study skills and write an individual project in their own subject area. Courses in the following subject areas have been set up in collaboration with academic departments and include recommended reading and lecture input: Management, Law, Accounting and Finance and Medical Studies.

We offer a welfare support and social programme for all students studying on English as a Foreign Language Pre-sessional courses.
