Office 2007

Important advice

Please be aware that the latest version of Microsoft's Office 2007 saves files in a format not directly compatible with previous versions. .

Note this issue does not affect SSD or CSCE users as the Office 2007 compatibility pack is already installed on those systems.

This is because by default Office 2007 saves new files in a different format to previous versions. You can identify a file that has been saved in the new version file format by its file extension - docx, xlsx, pptx, etc.

Previous versions of Office will only read files with the extension - doc, xls, ppt.

Solution

To get round this problem users of Office 2007 need to save their files in compatibility mode

Microsoft  compatibility pack

This download allow users of versions previous to Office 2007 to open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The pack is available from the Microsoft download centre
NOTE: SSD and CSCE users already have the pack installed on their system.
