About the contract

IT Services manages a contract with Xenon Network Services Ltd to cover the cost of repairs to

  • computer hardware including PCs
  • peripherals such as printers and scanners

The contract is for those departments that wish to make prior arrangements, by payment of an annual charge per item, to cover the cost of any or all repairs. The yearly charge for each item depends on the type of equipment.

  • The contract is available for any computer equipment owned, leased or controlled by the University of Glasgow
  • Equipment owned by members of staff and students of the University.

Any repairs to equipment owned by Staff may be carried out on University premises or at a (local) term-time address.

The contract does NOT cover repairs following software faults, operator error, supply of consumables, accidental damage, fire, special perils (e.g. flood, storm, explosion etc.) or theft of equipment.

The following items have been deemed to be consumables: (a) Toner cartridges , (b) Laser fusers, (c) Print ribbons, (d) Floppy disks and equivalent, (e) Tapes and Tape Cartridges. Any suspected fault subsequently diagnosed by the repair contractor as due to any of these reasons may result in the customer having to pay a bill.

In the event that a repair requires the re-formatting or replacement of a hard disk, then the repair contractor is only required to re-install the basic Operating System subject to the appropriate media being immediately available.
