Logging on
The PC should be displaying Ctrl, Alt and Delete login option. (If not, press Ctrl, Alt and Delete to display the login option.) By pressing all three keys simultaneously the Novell Netware banner appears. The PC is ready to accept your login.
At the
Enter your login name:
prompt, supply your login details in the form of matriculation number, the first letter of your surname, the year in which you first matriculated and the faculty for which the matriculation is valid. For example, if you are a Social Science Faculty student called Williams whose matriculation number is 0765553, you would type
0765553w.2007.lbss
and press the Tab key.
NOTE: All central and some distributed clusters are using version 6.0 of CSCE These are running a new login system which only require your username and password. (this is known as contextless login) You will be prompted to do this if version 6.0 is in use. Using the previous example at the prompt you type:
0765553w
You then type your password, which will not be echoed to the screen. It does not matter whether you type this in upper case (capital letters) or lower case (small letters). Passwords are described below.
If, for whatever reason and in whatever circumstances, this login procedure fails, it is possible to supply the longer, absolute login userid. For the above student this would be typed as follows:
.0765553w.2007.lbss.student.gla
where the initial period (dot) is essential.
n.b. Pre-1990 matriculations must use 1900 as the year.
Once you have submitted your password successfully, the PC carries out a login sequence. During this sequence the PC will be checked for computer viruses, and the local hard disk will be cleared up, to remove any trace of the previous student's session. The PC then starts the Windows operating system.
Logging out
You must log out at the end of your session. If you do not, then the next user will have access to your files and electronic mail messages. Log out in the following way:
close all the programs which you have running remove any of your own disks or CDs which are still in the drives click the START button and then logoff.
