Basic BI/Query training

Users are advised to attend this course BEFORE attending any other BI/Query course. This course teaches the user 'how to get started' using BI/Query. Users are taught how to access information held in a database using the BI/Query software and a BI/Query Data Model.

Please note that the data model used in this course is a demonstration model and is not relevant to any specific database.

Course duration - 3 hours

Pre-requisites - Familiarity with Windows 2000 or XP

Aims and Objectives

By the end of this course, users will know how to select information from tables in a database and produce their own lists and reports by:

  • Creating Queries using one or more tables
  • Qualifying Queries
  • Creating a list of values to qualify a query
  • Create Prompts to qualify a query
  • Save a Query
  • Load a Query
  • Using Functions
  • Produce Reports
  • Creating Subtotals in a Report
  • Creating Grand Totals in a Report
  • Creating Calculated Columns in a Report
  • Create Executive Buttons
  • Export Results to another Application, e.g. Excel, Word
  • Mail Merging BI/Query results

After attending this course, users should then attend a specific BI/Query Data Model course relating to the actual database that they will be using, e.g. Finance, Student, Pay /Personnel, UG Admissions, Direct Admissions (DAS) etc.

For those wishing to extend their knowledge of BI/Query, there is an Advanced BI/Query course that covers other features and functions of BI/Query.
