Requirements

  • An active "Network Port" and
  • A computer with a "Network Card".

A cable connects the network card to the network port.

Network port

A network port is found in the wall of your office. It looks very similar to a double telephone socket.
The ports should be numbered and follow the convention - E2 / 06 / 01 (please note, the first two digits may be numbers only).
If you cannot locate your network port, initially, contact your department / faculty IT staff or email net-admin@it.gla.ac.uk.

Network card

A network card an be referred to as an "Ethernet" or "Combo" card. Please note that if a computer is purchased under the "University Consortium Agreement", a card should be fitted on all models but it is best to check before purchase.
If a computer is not purchased under the "University Consortium Agreement", you must ensure that the supplier fits a card.
