What are the system requirements for using the VPN service?
You will need an existing account with a service provider. This can be dial-up or Broadband.
You will also need to fulfil the operating system requirements.
Do I need broadband to use the VPN service ?
No. VPN will work on any modem, cable, ADSL or LAN connection.
I have successfully started my VPN connection, what do I do now?
You can now use your web browser, e-mail client ftp client or telnet client to reach on campus resources. Check the How to section for more information.
If I have a firewall installed, which ports do I need to open.

Most firewalls will need TCP port 1023, and UDP port 500 opened.
Can the VPN service be used to access E-Journals and online references?
The recommendation for this is that you have a second web browser configured to use the University proxy server. If you use Internet Explorer, install Firefox or if you use Firefox, install Internet Explorer. Configure your browser to use the automatic configuration script http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/dial-in.pac. Instructions on how configure your browser.
