UNIVERSITY of GLASGOW

Virtual Private networking (VPN)

VPN allows you to make a secure, encrypted connection to the University network using your existing Internet Service Provider. Check the list of ISP's that we have already tested

When you have connected to your ISP and started the VPN client, a secure 'tunnel' is created between your computer and the University network. The client directs data for the University along this secure tunnel.

All other data goes through your normal ISP connection.

VPN can be used to access resources that are normally only available on-campus, such as E-Journals.

The VPN service is NOT an alternative to your ISP. You must have a connection to your service provider before you start the VPN connection. VPN can only be used to access Glasgow University sites and resources. The connection speed is only as fast the connection to your ISP.
