Pay and Grading
The aim of this section is to provide staff with updated information on all aspects of Pay and Grading after the recent Modernisation Agenda which was implemented in August 2006.
Framework Agreement
The University has now completed the implementation of the Modernisation Agenda as detailed in the Framework Agreement, which was negotiated at national level and supported by all recognised Trade Unions.
In recent years' the Higher Education sector has continued to apply historical means of rewarding staff with pay and progression based on practices which are ineffective and outdated. Existing mechanisms do not differentiate relative to contribution, do not reflect best human resource practice and do not satisfy either the University's aspirations, or the legal requirements of the equal pay for work of equal value agenda.
This issue has been the subject of wide and informed debate at national level resulting in the Framework Agreement, which incorporates the Modernisation of Pay Structures. Clearly it is evident that the University of Glasgow requires to adopt a pay and reward strategy that best fits the needs of our own institution.
As well as creating a new pay and grading structure, attached to the nationally agreed single 51 point pay spine we are also required to standardise hours of work and so far as possible other terms and conditions of employment as well as the implementation of a Performance Management Process.
Modernisation Agenda Steering Group
In order to facilitate the implementation of the Modernisation Agenda, the Modernisation Agenda Steering Group (MASG) was established. The MASG consists of members of the Human Resources Department, The Modernisation Project Team, representatives from the University's recognised Trades Unions and members of Senior Management as appropriate. The Steering Group meets as and when required, normally every month, and its role is to work in partnership, consulting and negotiating on all aspects of the framework agreement.
If you have any questions or queries regarding any aspect of this project please contact a member of the Project Team, your Trade Union Representative or your Territorial Human Resources Manager.
