Holidays for Academic and Academic Related Staff

Annual Leave

The annual leave entitlement is calculated on the basis of a leave year commencing on 1 October each year.


Academic, Research and Analogous and Other Related Staff

Academic, Research and Analogous and Other Related Staff are entitled to such annual leave as agreed with the Head of Department/Line Manager who have delegated authority from the University Court, subject to a minimum of six weeks (30 working days) after one year's service. There is no separate entitlement to public holidays.

For incomplete years of service, entitlement will accrue at the rate of one tenth of the annual leave entitlement for each completed month of service, up to a maximum of six weeks. Leave entitlement in any particular year may only be carried forward in exceptional circumstances and with the agreement of Human Resources Department.

Academic, Research and Analogous and Other Related Staff are expected to take accrued annual leave prior to the termination date, within the notice period.


Academic Related Administrative, Library and Computing Staff

The annual entitlement is 29 days for a full year's service and can be taken according to the needs of the service and by arrangement with the Head of Department. However, this will include entitlement to four "other days", three days to be taken following the designated Public Holiday for Boxing Day and the remaining day on September weekend Friday.

In addition ALC staff will be entitled to 10 Public Holidays per annum with pay (see below).

For incomplete years of service, entitlement will accrue at the rate of one tenth of the annual leave entitlement for each completed month of service, up to a maximum of 29 days. Leave entitlement in any particular year may only be carried forward in exceptional circumstances and with the agreement of Human Resources Department.

Upon termination of appointment, ALC Staff will be entitled to payment for annual leave accrued in the current leave year but not yet taken. This will be calculated in the same way as for incomplete years of service.
