What is P&DR?
Performance management is an ongoing communication process between line managers and their staff.
The annual formal and interim informal Performance and Development Reviews (P&DR) are just one aspect of that ongoing process.
The P&DR Framework has three key elements:
- it provides a mechanism through which individual job responsibilities and contributions can be linked to department / faculty strategic objectives; individual employees should be able to see how their job contributes to such objectives
- it provides a formal opportunity for looking back and reviewing past contributions and performance; and for looking forward and planning objectives for the future
- it provides an opportunity to discuss and define development opportunities and objectives
The P&DR scheme provides all employees with opportunity to discuss important information about their job, to give and receive constructive information and feedback, and establish any relevant learning and development needs.
Performance management is an ongoing communication process between a line manager and their staff. For employees to be motivated they need to see there is a relationship:
- between the effort they put in every day and required performance on the job
- between performance on the job and rewards such as recognition; recognition includes acknowledgement, thanks, opportunities for challenging work
