Personal Development Plan Form
Purpose
The personal development plan (PDP) is designed to capture agreements between reviewer and reviewee on key areas of learning and development including how these needs will be supported. However, it is no substitute for the personal interaction and discussion between reviewee and reviewer.
The personal development plan is prepared by the reviewee after the annual formal review meeting. It documents the personal development plan discussed and agreed between reviewer and reviewee.
Guidance
A personal development plan will include development objectives agreed for the following reasons:
- acquiring skills or knowledge to enhance performance in current job
- acquiring sills or knowledge to address anticipated changes to the current job
- acquiring skills and knowledge to address career aspirations of the reviewee where it has been agreed this will benefit both the individual and the organisation
It’s extremely unlikely that a reviewee has no skills and knowledge gap for improving performance in their current job or one to which they aspire. Not having a personal development plan would have to be justified.
The personal development plan should include the following for each objective in the plan:
- the link to relevant departmental / faculty strategic objectives and operational plans
- what will be learned
- how will this be achieved
- what resources / support will be required
- what will the success criteria be
- target dates for review and completion
Short, medium and long term objectives may be suitable for the PDP.
Copies of the personal development plan should be kept by the reviewee and the reviewer who should ensure it is filed appropriately.
