Glasgow Anti Racist Alliance has a packed programme for Black History Month 2008

Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival

1 - 19 October 2008 - The University of Glasgow is proud to support the second Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival which is managed by the Mental Health Foundation.

The University is supporting the first Literature Festival which will be held in the Mitchell Library on the 17 and 18 October. Curated and chaired by Professor Willy Maley, an astonishing line-up of leading Scottish based writers whose work touches on mental health unite in a series of afternoon sessions exploring issues of memory, trauma, life writing, the politics of personality, power, childhood, family, identity, suffering and survival. Writers' Mind includes contributions from Alan Bissett, Nick Brooks, Tom Leonard, Denise Mina and Zoe Strachan amongst others.

Gilmourhill G12 presents an evening of film entertainment from the 6-7 October. On the 6 October South Asian Stories explores the South Asian cinematic perspectives on mental health. It includes a presentation from Dinesh Bhugra, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists followed by the documentary I for India by Sandhya Suri.

Additionally Gilmourhill G12 on the 16 October will presenting a play Think No Evil of Us: My Life with Kenneth Williams, which is written and reformed by David Benson. This is a semi-autobiographical show which unlocks the character of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers.

World Record Ceildh in the Cloisters

19 September 2008, 6.30pm - 9pm - Grab your Kilts for a Ceilidh on a global scale! The SRC and Glasgow University International Society join forces for a genuine World Record breaking attempt in the quadrangles of the main building, bringing together students from all over the world for a night of dancing and cultural entertainment. A truly unmissable end to Freshers' Week!

Hannah Frank - A Glasgow Artist, Drawings and Sculpture - 100th Birthday Exhibition

23 August - 11 October 2008 - An exhibition celebrating the 100th birthday of Glasgow artist Hannah Frank. The exhibition is on in the University Chapel and is open Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm and Sunday 12-4pm. It is closed on Saturday, except 23 August and 11 October - 9-11am.

Football for All

28, 29, 31 January, 1 February - The Scottish Football Association, Equality Forward Scotland and the University of Glasgow are providing sessions for staff and students to raise awareness of racism & sectarianism and drugs & alcohol abuse and violence against women. This will be attended by professional footballers and a kick about will follow the session.

Mental Health: Raising awareness and promoting understanding

January 2008 - Art exhibition in the John McIntyre Cafe displaying artwork by people with mental health issues. This exhibition is supported by Positive Mental Attitude, Breathing Space and the Student Counselling and Advisory Service

Conference: The Global Politics of LGBT Human Rights

16 November 2007 - The conference brought together activists, academics and policymakers to discuss and debate recent developments in the global politics of LGBT human rights including the signing of the Montreal Declaration and Yogyakarta Principles, hosted by the Politics Department of the University of Glasgow.

Black History Month - Hunterian Museum

October 2007 - Every Tuesday and Thursday the Hunterian Museum hosts a short talk on an aspect of black history or culture.

Stonewall Diversity Champions - Monitoring Workshop

23 August 2007 - Workshop hosted by the University of Glasgow on behalf of Stonewall looks at monitoring sexual orientation in the workplace.
