Consent for Conferences
The Data Protection Act aims to protect individuals from having their personal data being abused. That is the personal data collected for the purpose of managing a Conference, or Symposium or Worksop, must not be used for any other purpose - unless consent is given by the individual.
A statement, based on that below, must be included on the conference registration form to assure the individual about the use of personal data that he provides to the conference organiser. As appropriate substitute the word Workshop or Course or Symposium etc for Conference in the statement.
"The information you supply when registering for the ….event ……title …… on ... date ... to ... date ... is entered into a filing system and accessed only by authorised personnel of the University of Glasgow or its agents. The information is retained by the University and used solely for (a) registration procedures and your attendance at the event, and (b) statistical and audit purposes. Unless you advise to the contrary, in advance and in writing to the event organisers, your name and contact details may be (i) made available in a list of participants to both the attendees at and sponsor(s) of the event, and (ii) retained by the University and used for marketing purposes in the future. By supplying such information you consent to the University storing the information for the stated purposes.The information is processed by the University in accordance with the provisions of the Data protection Act 1998. "
