Benefits to Employers

Scotland is already well known as a fantastic source of well qualified University Graduates from some of the very best Universities in the world. With the Scottish Government's intent to create a Scottish economy that matches that of the UK by 2011 it is imperative that Scottish Graduates are the most capable students now than ever before in Scottish history.

Through a £1.2m grant the Universities of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian and St. Andrews have partnered to undertake this challenge and offer work related opportunities and support to students in University disciplines that often lack an association with the `world of work`. This is to ensure that once these students leave University life they are better prepared and fully capable to take on the pledge to ensure Scotland is a rich and vibrant economy and Scottish graduates are world renown for their capabilities and education.

What is on offer?

An opportunity to work with the Universities of Glasgow, Caledonia and St. Andrews to provide your professional requirements for top tier graduates and what knowledge and experience you might provide from the sector to properly prepare tomorrows graduates for challenging careers.

What do you get?

The opportunity to gain an awareness of today's undergraduate and tomorrow's graduate and to work with students from some of the very best names in higher education in Scotland. You also provide the knowledge, experience and on-the-job training to inspire these students to maintain interest and career prospects in your field and attract them to promising future careers.

Why participate?

The sustainability of  most organisations relies upon qualified and inspired graduates capable of entering career employment and finding valuable and rewarding roles that challenge them to apply their knowledge and deploy their skills; the ability to problem solve, communicate effectively, display technical abilities and reflect on an organisation and help it to change.

The AUL@W Project is the unique opportunity to become involved in this process for your sector and provide invaluable feedback to universities so they may better prepare students to be `employable`. Participating ensures that the graduates you find from Scottish Universities are capable of meeting the demands of your sector successfully and professionally.

What are the benefits of becoming involved in AUL@W?

Employers will have the opportunity to forge even stronger collaborative relationships with academics, students, and the careers services of the partner institutions, the University of Glasgow, University of St Andrews and Glasgow Caledonian University. Through the provision of work related learning opportunities such as placements, project work, field trips, and employer talks, employers will have greater access to pools of students engaged with the pilots.
