Moira Rankin

Moira gave birth to a healthy boy on Saturday 22nd November.  His name is Peter Kenneth and he weighed in at 6 pounds 10 ounces.  Both are doing well.

Supporting Archive and Records Management Training in Malawi

Alistair Tough, the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Archivist based in Archive Services, has been awarded a Scotland-Malawi Partnership fellowship.  He is expecting to be in Malawi for four months, starting in April 2009.  The plan is for him to support the development of graduate education for archivists and records managers.  The Government of Malawi has identified a shortage of properly trained records professionals as a serious barrier to its Rule of Law Programme.  This Programme exists to counter corruption and support good governance.  Following Alistair’s return, it is likely that Malawian colleagues will come to Glasgow to upgrade their skills, particularly in relation to digital working.  During Alistair’s absence, Claire Daniel will be ensuring that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Archive services are maintained.
 
Alistair commented “This fellowship award reflects the high regard in which Glasgow University’s Archive Services is held and promises to attract more students for the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute's (HATII)  Information Management and Preservation (IMP) course.  I am honoured to have been selected and look forward to building strong working relationships with Malawian counterparts.”

Moira Rankin

The staff of Archive Services would like to extend their best wishes to Moira Rankin, Senior Archivist, as Moira departs on maternity leave on 24th October.  Clare Paterson will be acting Senior Archivist in Moira's absence three days a week.
