- Next, read about the funding opportunities for research postgraduates, and make a note of the application deadlines.
LLM by Research
The LLM by research is a route to a masters qualification that involves writing a 30,000 word thesis on an area of law or legal thought of your choice. The degree is most suitable for those wishing to improve their employment prospects, but could also serve as preparation for a research career or PhD. The LLM by research is available as a one year full-time or two year part-time programme. [You may download a fuller description of the LLM by Research]
MRes in Law
The Masters in Research in Law will offer an advanced introduction to the study of Law and a preparation for doctoral study in Law. It serves both as a qualification in its own right as well as providing a platform for those who wish to go on to study for a PhD. The MRes has a strong emphasis on research training, in order to help develop generic research knowledge and skills. Students are introduced to legal research methodologies, the ethics of legal research, key traditions of legal inquiry and basic concepts of legal thought. The MRes will be of particular interest to those who want to work as researchers, develop academic research skills or embark on a PhD. Further details on the MRes in Law are available on this page.
