MSc Strategic Human Resource Management and Organisational Change

What is it?

The MSc In Strategic Human Resource Management and Organisational Change is an innovative two-year, part-time masters degree. The programme is designed to provide you with a unique opportunity to develop advanced knowledge and skills in the broad field of people management and change while building and leveraging your networks with like-minded colleagues.

The programme provides the opportunity to apply your studies to your organisation’s strategic problems, while being supported by leading academics and senior practitioners from the private and public sectors.

Who is the programme for?

This is an advanced practitioner masters degree designed for experienced professionals who wish to commit themselves to a programme of career development in one of Scotland’s premier business schools. The programme is aimed at senior practitioners and those people aspiring toward senior roles in human resource management (HRM), learning & development (L&D), organisational development (OD) or senior managers whose main job is to lead change through people.

What makes this programme different?

The MSc in Strategic Human Resource Management and Organisational Change goes beyond what current HR diplomas, specialist masters programmes in HRM and MBAs provide in meeting your needs to exercise strategic leadership in people management and change.

The main approach is action research and learning, which means that you will typically work on ‘live’ organisationbased strategic HR and change initiatives. You will be constantly working with, and learning from, other senior professionals in face-to-face and online ‘communities of learning’.

This action-focused research and learning will be supported by advanced practitioner courses and workshops in:

  • strategic leadership, which will develop your understanding and skills in strategic change, leadership, corporate social responsibility, corporate reputations and branding, and ethics
  • contemporary HR and organisational change problems, including strategic HRM, talent management, organisational development, change and consulting, HR transformation, technology and outsourcing.

These workshops have been specifically designed with the Advanced Practitioner Standards of the CIPD in mind.

You will receive support from senior academics with international reputations from an accredited business school and from highly-qualified, senior practitioners who have significant experience in leading change and strategic HR.

As we are mindful of the needs of senior people from different regions for flexibility in delivery, all courses and workshops will be supported by the latest online learning technologies. This will ensure that you don’t miss out and can still participate with colleagues if, on occasion, you are unable to make the face-toface workshops. These workshops will be held approximately every six weeks on Friday and Saturday mornings to minimise disruption to your working week.

What will the programme be like?

The best way to find out more about our teaching methods, our online ‘communities of learning’, and action research is to hear what one of our students has to say:

Communities of learning:

“The virtual learning environment has made it easy for the group to do work in between courses and share ideas, and gain a wider perception of different views. It’s also enabled us to keep in touch throughout the programme and we are now starting to share information and documents from our own organisations.”

Action Research:

“Though I am in the early stages of the research, I feel that this will provide clear and well thought out recommendations that will influence a major change in my organisation.”
