International history of modern business and banking
The Department of Economic and Social History within the School of Historical Studies features one of the largest concentrations of business and financial historians in Europe. Members of this cluster contribute to the MSc in Contemporary Economic History. The Department's membership in the Glasgow Business School contributes to its interdisciplinary approach to research and graduate work. Within the Department, the Centre for Business History in Scotland provides a focal point for a range of research activities. With funding from outside businesses and the ESRC, the Centre supports a number of postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The Centre organises regular seminars and in 2005 hosted the international conference of the Association of Business Historians. The Centre welcomes several scholars-in-residence each year, some of whom take advantage of the unique archival resources available here through the Scottish business records held by the university's Archive Services and the Centre's own library.
