This interdisciplinary symposium, organised by the Faculty of Arts in collaboration with the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, will inaugurate a series of collaborative ventures, bringing together scholars, not merely from different disciplines across the Faculty of Arts, but also from other UK and international institutions (as part of the AHRC-funded Modern Languages Training Network). This session will bring together a group of internationally noted scholars from France and the US, examining reading practices in a number of historical, cultural and discursive contexts from an interdisciplinary perspective. Key themes will include the following:
- Reading practices in cultural and production contexts
- Print culture
- Practices of reading: theology, hermeneutics
- Reading practices and the non-literary text
