Section of Haematology
Head of Section: Professor Tessa Holyoake
The Section of Haematology has been formed through reorganisation of the Faculty of Medicine. The section brings together multidisciplinary academics of national and international standing, focusing on basic haemopoietic research questions that have direct clinical relevance. We aim to integrate the clinical and non-clinical research base in experimental haematology in the city and to ensure the evolution of a research programme of international excellence that is underpinned by high quality basic science.
This new Section brings together expertise in basic stem cell biology, Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) and lymphocyte development, Multiple Myeloma (headed by Professor Holyoake, Dr Mountford, Dr Michie and Professor Franklin) and links through to translational research programmes and Principal Investigator (PI) led clinical trials. The strong translational basis of this Section provides excellent access to primary tissue samples, facilitating critical pre-clinical studies.
