Name: Christine Reid
Nationality: British
Background: Marketing and Planning Manager, Rolls Royce plc.
First degree in mechanical engineering.
Current Post: Consultant, Kiang Consulting

I wanted a broader understanding of how business operates and the pressures that drive strategy and development. I also wanted to explore opportunities outside and beyond my business and industry experience.

The MBA helped me to make sense of the environment I had left, and I could leverage my experience to inform and put into context the academic elements. When I completed the MBA I was recruited into the senior management programme in my present organisation. This opportunity would not have been available had I not been an MBA graduate.

The part-time course tends to have a more mature group of students, with input from across the public and private sectors. There’s a good mix of international students on the full-time course, offering exposure to cultures and the sharing of business challenges outside the UK. At Glasgow there’s an opportunity to experience both, as several of the classes are taken with part-time and full-time students together. The Staff at the Business School are known for their research, publications and consultancy work. This is balanced with input from lecturers in industry and business who have direct applied knowledge.

Personally, the course gave me increased confidence. Professionally, it has allowed me to bridge the gap between specialist and manager where I can influence the organisation beyond the remit of my basic training and experience.

I help lead real change in management behaviour. We have exciting times ahead. I’m glad to be part of that. This, for me, was the right opportunity at the right time.
