Dissertation Prizes in Business History - Undergraduate & Postgraduate - 2007-2008

The Centre for Business History in Scotland at the University of Glasgow is pleased to announce two prize competitions, one for the best undergraduate dissertation, and one for the best postgraduate dissertation in business history submitted to any academic department at a Scottish university between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008.


IHA Bursary

The Institute for the History of Aluminium based in Paris offers each year bursaries amounting to 2300 Euro to students wishing to undertake Masters research or a doctoral thesis using its material.  The projects are selected by the quality of the question and the interest of the proposed subject of study.  All approaches are envisaged: industrial history, economic history, human geography, sociology, history of management, history of art etc.

Students also receive scientific support: access to the firm archives and documentation, integration into the permanent research of the association, meetings with witness participants in the aluminium industry etc.

Dissertation Prize 2006-07 Announcement

The Centre for Business History in Scotland are pleased to announce that Jim Blackley of the Department of Economic & Social History, University of Glasgow, has been awarded the prize of £250 for his dissertation on "The development of the boot and shoe-making industry in Maybole, Ayrshire during the 19th century, and its impact on the town and its people".
