Why study Accounting and Finance?

Mastery of accounting and finance skills and techniques are fundamental to success in business.  Accounting and finance staff play a key role in providing expertise in many business situations worldwide. They must be able to provide plausible solutions to complex business problems and needs, working from an analytical standpoint to communicate findings and recommendations (whether numerical or narrative) to other business colleagues and stakeholders in a clear and cogent manner. Accordingly, talented and well-qualified accounting and finance people are highly sought after in a vast range of employments, whether in professional practice, industry, or the public sector.

Why study Accounting and Finance in Glasgow?

The University of Glasgow has one of the longest established departments of accounting and finance in the United Kingdom. The staff profile is very strong, and includes researchers working in almost all the principal areas of enquiry in accounting and finance. The Department of Accounting and Finance offers two long established, highly regarded and consistently popular taught postgraduate degrees – the Master of Finance (MFin), and the Master of Accounting (MAcc).  These programmes comprise a carefully balanced blend of courses, reflecting the dynamic nature of contemporary accounting and finance.  A major strength of both programmes is the international emphasis – an increasingly essential attribute in today’s business environment.  Over the past years, our postgraduate programme has proved so successful that we have had to cap the number of places available. We have applicants from all parts of the world and many go on to achieve national and international reputations in their fields.
