About us

Dating back to 1925 with the establishment of the Johnstone Smith Chair of Accountancy, the Department of Accounting & Finance at Glasgow University is now one of the main academic institutions for high quality research and research-led teaching in Scotland, and indeed the UK.

Today the Department is housed in the landmark Gilbert Scott building, the main building of the university, boasting 3 new computer laboratories, modern presentation equipment, and it’s own research library, the Wards Research Library.  We also run the Wards Seminar Series, a regular series of research seminars by members of staff and guests from other institutions.

The Department offers a range of BAcc degree programmes, allowing our students to study a range of courses.  In addition the Department has a number of exchange programmes with foreign universities.  In recent years the Department has expanded its taught Masters degree programmes, and also contributes to a number of other postgraduate degrees.  Finally, the research degree programme continues to develop, offering a solid basis for careers in accounting and finance research.
